The 2013 Audi S6 arrives like a faster, more potent and much more fuel-efficient version of their former self and outfitted to compete towards the top of the super-sedan class. Since Audi has set the remodeled 2013 Audi A6 loose around the world, it may turn its focus on our prime-performance 2013 Audi S6. The S6 shares the brand new A6 chassis, will get a brand new, more fuel-efficient engine while offering a canvas its Audi’s current tech mojo and innovation.
A brand new twin-turbocharged 4.-liter V8 replaces the first kind naturally aspirated V10. It can make less horsepower but a little more torque than its predecessor, putting 420 horsepower and 406 pound-ft down via a dual-clutch seven-speed automated stick shift. All-wheel drive is standard.
The new 2013 Audi S6 has bulked up a bit on the outgoing AWD model, adding about 130 pounds. Considering the additional clutch of electronics and driver aids onboard, that’s not bad. A body comprised of 20 percent aluminum lightens the load, while the new chassis — which locates the engine farther rearward — should help the S6 respond more crisply as it enters the corners.
Audi says the new S6 can sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.8 seconds, a full second faster than the lazy legs of the current model. Even with quicker acceleration, the 4.0-liter delivers improved fuel economy and now returns 24 highway mpg.
The S6 will also carry the creature comforts and performance steroids available on other S models. These include a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension with variable damping, 19- and 20-inch wheels and driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, lane departure warning and night vision. A rear sport differential, carbon-ceramic brakes, adaptive LED headlights, parking assist with a 360-degree camera view, and massaging seats are also available. There’s even a WiFi router option that turns the S6 into a mobile hotspot, and a navigation system with touchpad and handwriting recognition.
The 2013 Audi S6 is expected to arrive in the fall of 2012. It now seems better equipped to challenge more expensive rivals like the Jaguar XF and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. For now, don’t expect to see the S6 Avant wagon on our shores anytime soon.
